Custom Watchlists
Save stocks you're researching without adding them to a portfolio. Watchlists keep candidates organized while you compare yields, track ex-dates, and decide what to buy next.
Watchlists vs. portfolios
A portfolio tracks what you own — shares, cost basis, income, and returns. A watchlist is a lightweight research list with no positions or transactions. Use watchlists for stocks on your radar; move them into a portfolio only when you actually buy.
Step-by-Step
1. Open Watchlists
Go to /watchlists from the sidebar or Home dashboard. You must be signed in — new users are redirected to register first.
2. Create a new watchlist
Click New Watchlist to open the creation wizard. Name your list (e.g., "High Yield REITs" or "2026 Buys"), add an optional description, pick an icon and accent color, then search and select tickers to seed the list. You can always add more stocks later.
3. Manage your lists
Switch between watchlists using the tabs at the top. Each list shows live quote data — price, daily change, yield, 5-year dividend growth, next ex-date, and rating. Use Add Stocks to expand the list, edit the name or description and click Save, or Delete to remove a list entirely. Remove individual tickers with the trash icon on each row.
4. Filter the Dividend Calendar
On the Dividend Calendar, open the preset dropdown and select any saved watchlist under Your Watchlists. The calendar loads ex-dates and payment dates only for those tickers — with a period income summary so you can see what's coming at a glance. Portfolio and watchlist views always use live data, never sample placeholders.
5. Use watchlists with the screener workflow
Run the Stock Screener to filter by yield, payout ratio, dividend streak, and more. When a stock looks promising, add it to a watchlist for ongoing tracking — then monitor upcoming payouts on the calendar and dive into quote pages before you commit capital. Pair watchlists with Compare Stocks to evaluate finalists side by side.

Common Questions
Do watchlists affect my portfolio income?
No. Watchlists are research-only. Dividend income, forward yield, and projections come exclusively from holdings in your portfolios.
How many watchlists can I create?
There is no hard cap on watchlist count today. Create as many themed lists as you need — sector buckets, buy candidates, dividend aristocrats, and so on.
Can I set alerts on watchlist stocks?
Portfolio alerts apply to holdings you own. For watchlist names, use the Dividend Calendar to track upcoming ex-dates, or add the stock to a portfolio once you buy to unlock full alert coverage. See Setting Alerts.
