Using the Stock Screener

Find dividend stocks that match your criteria using live filters, quick presets, and sortable results at /stock-screener.

The screener is a discovery tool — not a buy list.

It pulls live quote data (yield, payout ratio, analyst targets, dividend streaks, and more) so you can narrow thousands of tickers down to a short list. Always click through to the full stock page before making investment decisions.

Getting Started

1. Open the Dividend Stock Screener

From the sidebar or Tools page, go to Stock Screener (/stock-screener). The page loads up to 200 stocks at a time from our live API, sorted by market cap by default.

2. Use quick filters for common strategies

One-click presets at the top of the page apply common dividend-investor filters:

  • High Yield — dividend yield above 4%
  • Dividend Kings — 50+ consecutive years of dividend increases
  • Aristocrats — 25+ consecutive years of dividend increases
  • Undervalued — analyst upside potential above 10%
  • Safe Payout — payout ratio below 60%

Click a preset again to turn it off. Only one quick filter can be active at a time.

3. Refine with the filter panel

Click Filters to open the side panel. You can set:

  • Dividend Yield — slider from 0% to 15%+
  • Payout Ratio — slider from 0% to 150%
  • Sectors — checkboxes for all 11 GICS-style sectors (Healthcare, Technology, Utilities, Real Estate, etc.)

Use Reset to clear panel filters, then Apply to close the panel. The badge on the Filters button shows how many filter groups are active.

4. Search, sort, and customize columns

The toolbar above the results table lets you:

  • Search — filter by ticker, company name, or sector (debounced live search)
  • Columns — show or hide Sector, Market Cap, Price, Change %, Yield, Dividend, Payout, Target, and Upside
  • Sort — by yield, market cap, upside, payout ratio, price, or daily change
  • Direction — toggle ascending or descending
  • Refresh — reload the latest data from the API

Reading the Results

The summary bar at the top shows how many stocks match your filters, plus the average yield and average upside across the filtered set. If client-side filters removed rows from the API batch, you'll see a count like "42 of 200".

Column guide

  • Yield — trailing 12-month dividend yield
  • Payout — earnings payout ratio (TTM); lower is generally safer for most sectors
  • Target — mean analyst price target (12-month)
  • Upside — implied upside to that target from the current price

Click a ticker to open its full research page. Check the box next to a row to select it for comparison (up to 5 tickers).

Compare Selected Stocks

When you select two or more tickers, a banner appears at the bottom with a Compare Now button. This opens the Compare Dividend Returns tool with your selections pre-filled, so you can run a DRIP backtest and side-by-side fundamental comparison.

Save Screen & Export

The screener header includes Save Screen and Export buttons for saving your filter combination and downloading results. These controls are visible in the UI today; if they are not yet active in your environment, use the URL with your current filters in mind and revisit after platform updates.

Tips & Limitations

Sector-aware payout thresholds

The "Safe Payout" quick filter uses a flat 60% cutoff — fine for a first pass, but REITs and utilities often run higher sustainable payout ratios. Check the stock page for sector-adjusted context.

Data scope

The screener loads 200 rows per request. Heavy filtering happens client-side on that batch, so very narrow criteria may show fewer results than exist in the full universe. Broaden filters or refresh if you expect more matches.
