Covered-Call ETFs
These funds hold stocks or an index book and sell calls so they can distribute more cash. You are paid to give up some upside.
What it is
Index overwrite (QYLD, XYLD) is systematic. Active premium-income (JEPI, JEPQ) picks a sleeve and an options book. NEOS-style funds (QQQI, SPYI) target high monthly income with their own overlay.
Single-stock YieldMax products are a different animal. They are not on this list as “best income.”
Hypothetical: $10,000, 8% distribution, capped rally
Labeled hypothetical — not a live yield, AUM, or tax bracket.
- You collect about $800 in a year if an 8% distribution rate holds (before tax).
- If the underlying index is up 25% and your overwrite capped you at 10% total return, you “won” income and lost the rally.
- Compare that path to SCHD on the quality list. Different job.

FAQ
What is a covered-call ETF?
A fund that holds equities or index exposure and sells call options to generate extra cash distributions. Yield often rises; upside is capped.
Educational only — not investment, tax, or legal advice. Dividend Wealth does not recommend 2x daily, inverse, or single-stock YieldMax products as “best income.” Yields change. Confirm filings and your own tax situation.
